I spent the past week at Robins AFB, Georgia attending a Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) Black Belt Workshop.
Being 640 miles away, the trip from Scott AFB to Robins AFB was at the upper limit of a driving trip for me. Depending on traffic, I was looking at approximately 10 hours of driving time each way.
I typically enjoy these drives more than the hassle of getting to the airport early, going through TSA, waiting at the gate, waiting on luggage once we arrive, getting the rental car, and then still having to make the remaining drive to the final destination.
During the drive to Robins AFB, I listened to the book Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. I had begun watching the Apple TV+ tv series and was enjoying the story, so I decided the 10 hour audiobook would be the perfect entertainment for this drive and would allow me to enjoy the complete storyline before continuing to watch the series. I could then compare how the various worlds described in the book compare to the ones produced for the video version. Blake Crouch was involved in the Apple TV+ series, so he likely helped make the storyline changes that are often necessary to make a book more adaptable to a tv series.
For the return trip, I began listening to a book that had been recommended during the workshop called “Propeller” by Tanner Corbridge, Jared Jones, Craig Hickman, and Tom Smith. But I also listened to a few podcasts. One of those being the Stacking Benjamins Podcast. In this particular episode, the special guest was Scott Galloway – whom I was unfamiliar with. It was a very good interview and prompted me to search for more information and content from Scott. This interview on the Rich Roll podcast provides a good overview of his views on various topics. He has very practical and common sense approaches to personal finance, career pursuits (we hold similar views about the follow your passion advice), and the need for drastic change at all levels of community, institutions, and government. I plan to pick up his book “The Algebra of Wealth” very soon.
