My kids have grown up listening to me preach on the importance of budgeting. I taught them how I have used a program called Moneydance to create a digital envelope system to direct current and future money flows. I even posted a YouTube video about it that has received over 32,000 views. A couple of years ago Caleb said, “Dad, I get the concept but your system is too complicated. Nobody is going to do that.”
Now that he has moved to Wisconsin and is adulting, he needed a system to budget his money in greater detail. But instead of adopting my somewhat complicated method, he created his own envelope system that manages money in a simpler and, dare I say, more efficient way. Looks like I’m going to start migrating our process over to his system. Sometimes we are the teacher, sometimes we are the student.
If you, or someone you know, is looking for an effective method for budgeting money, I hope you’ll consider checking out the Almon app in the iOS App Store. It’s only $5 and would help a young developer continue improving the app that could help many people make better financial decisions.
