I had the privilege of joining other budgeting professionals last week at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland to review and update the materials used to train new Budget Officers and Analysts.
We discussed ways to modernize the approach, moving away from PowerPoint being the base platform to a Visio visualization as the basis where each topic displayed within the structure is linked to a OneNote page that contains materials to assist with explaining the topic theory (ie. PPT deck, a video, etc), step-by-step guides, links and instructions for hands-on exercises, and/or information for completing a scenario to practice what has been learned.
I was able to share experiences and advice with this group that serve as instructors for the career field, recalling my time as an instructor from 2004-2009.
I captured some notes and takeaways during my flight home that I sent back to the group.
