The first is online blogs. Discovering interesting blogs and subscribing to them (I use Bloglines) has been a great way to keep new content available that is easily digestible. Bloglines is a website but I can access my Bloglines account and articles from my phone. This has been a HUGE benefit. Anytime I have a few minutes of idle time, I can check for new posts that I would want to read. I use a Sprint Blackberry 7130e with the data service and not all phones will work with Bloglines.
The second discovery has been Wattpad. Wattpad offers books that can be read online or via certain phones. After seeing the new James Bond movie, “Casino Royale”, I decided to read the original Ian Fleming novel. Wattpad allows me to read at my pace without having to renew the book over and over again from the library. The phone application is simple, but has a great scroll feature that works like a teleprompter. Speeding up or slowing down the text is easy and convenient. I’m currently reading his second novel, “Live and Let Die”.
So if you catch me looking at me phone for an extended period of time, I’m not being anti-social. I’m just reading.
