Christian Denominations Family Tree by Useful Charts

Posted on June 3, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

The YouTube channel Useful Charts is working on an 8-part series that explains how the various christian denominations have evolved over the nearly two thousand years of the Church’s existence.  I find this historical perspective very interesting.   At the time of this posting, only the first seven videos have been released.  The eighth video is due…

Posted on April 25, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

April is Finance Literacy Month.   To “celebrate”, I have organized the several personal finance lesson blog posts that I created over the past couple years into a book format that can be downloaded in EPUB or PDF format. I hope you find the information helpful as you continue on your own journey to improving your…

$21k Isn’t A Lot to Millionaires

Posted on April 21, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

I was recently asked to comment on the advice provided in this video.  In short, it’s horrible advice.  This is a prime example of why I cannot recommend blindly following the advice of radio entertainers who are brand conscious and common sense deficient.   The proper advice anyone with the person’s best interests in mind…

Instrumental

Posted on April 8, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

Caleb got home last night for a weekend visit and came in with an autoharp that he found at a shop near ISU.  I just don’t know why he keeps bringing home these instruments.  He already has an acoustic guitar, electric guitar, trombone, ukulele, lap harp, midi keyboard, stylophone, and I’m sure others.  We’re running…

Book: Dollars and Sense

Posted on April 6, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

This book, “Dollars and Sense”, is the next book to be discussed on the ChooseFI podcast’s book club installment.  Although I wouldn’t place it at the very top of my favorite books in this category, I did thoroughly enjoy it. It was similar to Morgan Housel’s “The Psychology of…

Posted on April 4, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

I’ve tried many different Bluetooth earbuds lately that cover the price spectrum from around $10 to $250. For the most part, you get what you pay for. I’ve tried Walmart’s onn., JLab, Soundcore, Beats, and Apple brands.  On the cheapest end, I like the $10 onn. Wireless Earphones. They are comfortable with decent audio quality…

Envelope System FTW!

Posted on April 3, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

It takes a lot more than stuffing envelopes to get rich, but it doesn’t take much more than that and some self-discipline to get yourself out of debt (catastrophic circumstances notwithstanding). link to article

STFU

Posted on March 30, 2023November 15, 2025 by Philip

Tempted to do the Oprah thing and tell a lot of people I interact with to look under their seats:   YOU get a book, and YOU get a book, and YOU get a book! Learned of the book in an interview with the author on an episode of The Art of Manliness podcast.
